Books, TV Shows And Movies I’ve Been Loving Lately

We consume media each and everyday of our lives. Sometimes via books, tv shows and movies, and other times through YouTube and social media. I’m a big reader, although I never read as much as I’d love. And I’m a sucker for binge watching a good TV series. So I thought I’d share with you some of the things I’ve been loving lately starting with books.

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill

I have simple loves when it comes to books. Chick Lit is my favourite genre, and I like the kind of books where you can probably tell what’s going to happen, but it’s enjoyable anyway. And that’s what The Bookish Life of Nina Hill was like. Nina is an organised, cat mum who loves to read so I instantly felt connected to her. The book revolved around her changing life with some new family coming out of the woodwork and a new man on the scene.

Books I’ve Been Loving Lately- Beach Read

Again another pretty predictable one for the end outcome, but there were plenty of little surprises peppered in. January is a romance writer, and Augustus is a literary fiction author. They met during their younger years studying but are staying in neighbouring beach houses while they both try and write their next books. Stuck with writers block they strike a deal to force them out of their ruts and agree to swap genres.

Again I really liked the main characters and the development was good, we found out a lot about both January and Augustus. I couldn’t put this one down and it’s one of my top books of the year so far.

Workin’ Moms

After I finished my last binge watch I needed something to watch during lunch breaks and evenings and Workin’ Moms came out. It follows a bunch of working mums showing the reality of what it can be like to be a parent. And it’s a really great show. I both love and hate the main characters (in a good way!) And it’s funny at the right moments, and cringey in the right amount. Plus there are 5 seasons to plenty to watch. I am just finishing season 3 and love it so far.

TV Shows I’ve Been Loving Lately- Loki

We’re big Marvel fans in our household and the Disney+ Marvel TV shows have been a great addition to 2021. So far Loki is my favourite out of the three so far (Wandvision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier). I’m a huge fan of character Loki (plus Tom Hiddleston is dreamy!) And this is a great way of finding out more about him as a character and a bit about his past/ where he’s been between movies. The hardest part is waiting a week for the next episode.

Castle

This is a TV show I’ve been loving lately, but also loving for quite a few months. There are a lot of seasons of Castle and a lot of episodes per season so this is a show for the long haul. But it’s the show me and Luke watch in the evenings when we don’t fancy a movie. It follows Richard Castle who is a successful mystery writer who shadows the NYPD Homicide Department for some insight for his latest book. But what should have been a few weeks, lasts years. Each episode follows a different murder that the team solve with the character storylines weaved throughout.

We’re getting close to the end of season 5 so have made good progress, but there’s a lot still to watch. And I absolutely love it.

Movies I’ve Been Loving Lately- Cruella

If you asked me the movie I’ve been loving lately the most then I’d have to say Cruella. I made it back to the cinema for the first time post lockdown in June. And Cruella was the first thing I saw. I’m a big fan of Disney liveaction anyway, especially an origin story. And the visuals and music in this movie were spectacular. The fashion, the bright colours and the 1960’s London were just great. I want to petition for more origin stories of baddies!

Marvel movies

And finally I couldn’t talk about things I’ve been loving lately without mentioning Marvel movies. I’ve seen them all already but over the past few months me and Luke have been rewatching them, but in chronological order and not release order. We don’t have too many left to go now having just seen Thor: Ragnarok (one of my fav Marvel movies!) With some of the older ones there were 100% things I didn’t remember or realise when I first watched them so it’s been good to do.
