If 2020 has taught me nothing it’s that we need to appreciate the little things. The things that make you smile and remind you that life can be pretty good. If I’m feeling anxious or sad, sometimes it can be pretty easy to bring about a smile and a bit of happiness. Here are some of the things that make me smile.
A luxurious bubble bath
I haven’t lived somewhere with a bath since February 2019 and I miss it. My parents don’t have a bath, and currently our new house doesn’t have one fitted. But I blooming love a good bath. I’ll go all out with the products; bath salts, oils, bubble bath, a bath bomb, the whole works. I love popping a face and hair mask on, lighting a candle and relaxing with a book or magazine. It’s guaranteed to make me smile.
Cute cats
Pretty much anything to do with a cat is likely to make me smile. Whether it’s trying to befriend the cat who lives next door or a late night scroll on the ‘Awww’ thread on Reddit. Me and Luke are planning on getting kittens in the new year once the house is properly finished and I can’t wait. I know there will be so many times when I’m working from home and the kittens will just make me smile.
Fresh bedding makes me smile
There’s nothing better than crawling into fresh sheets at the end of a long week (especially if they’re still a little warm). I try to put our bedding on to wash on either a Friday or Saturday when we can have a lie in and enjoy it the next day.
Booking something
Now I’ve not been doing a lot of booking this year. But usually the thrill of booking anything from a cinema date or a theatre show to a flight or hotel brings me a lot of smiles. I get a huge buzz when I book something as it’s another thing to add to the calendar and look forward to.
Finding out something I want is on the sale (or finding a discount code)
I’m a serial bargain hunter. So it makes me smile a lot when I find out somethint I’ve been yearning for is on sale. Or when I go to buy something and find a discount code. I’ll research prices, read reviews and try to find the cheapest price for everything I buy.
Other things which make me smile
- A new pair of socks when they’re super soft
- Waking up naturally without the need for an alarm
- Winning an item on eBay
- Peel off face masks (when they actually work)
- Getting a card through the post
- Going out for dinner with my best friends (especially if it includes a good cocktail)
- Ticking things off my to visit/ achievements list
- Decluttering items and the sense of calm that comes with it
- Organising areas of my house (and keeping them organised)
- Binge watching a TV series (old or new)
