I’m sure most of us have dreamed about winning the lottery before. From a few hundred thousand to a couple of million, the possibilities are endless. Admittedly I don’t play the lottery much but it doesn’t mean I can’t dream. I have thought to myself ‘What would I do if I won the lottery?’ on numerous occasions so I thought I’d talk about some of my ideas.
Paying off the mortgage and work on the house
The very first thing I’d do is pay off our mortgage. We bought our first proper home a few months back and to be able to pay that straight off and have no major outgoings would be amazing. A lot of people dream of paying off their mortgage and if I won the lottery it could be a dream come true.
Now we’ve done quite a lot of work on our house over the past few months and we’re pretty happy with it but a few things we would also do would be:
- Fully renovate our main bathroom- At the moment it’s a shell and totally empty so we’d do this up with the biggest bath we could get
- Re-do our drive- I’d love to get our front garden area totally re-done and get a new drive
- Landscape our garden- Our garden is our 2021 project, but if we won the lottery then we could get someone in to totally re-do it for us. No expense spared
- Get a hot tub- Again this is something else we’ve spoken about as we have the perfect space for it. With money no object we’d 100% get one
- Get solar power- We’ve spoken about solar a lot of times and it would be great to know we didn’t have to think about electricity
If I won the lottery: Holidays and second properties
Most people would think about going on holiday as soon as winning any money but it’s a different time now. But once things with COVID have calmed down a bit more I’d be going on a lot of awesome holidays. I’d be able to tick off bucket list places like New Zealand, India, Iceland and New Orleans alongside so many more. I don’t think we’d travel all the time. But a good 3-4 big holidays a year would certainly do us well. I could really do with being in one of those overwater bungalows somewhere like the Maldives with a cocktail right about now.
If there was enough money when we won the lottery it’s likely we’d buy a property elsewhere. I’d love to have an apartment in New York I could use whenever I headed to the city. Or a nice pad in Central London to use after theatre trips and gigs.
Helping out family and friends
If we won the lottery we’d want to help out friends and family who we love. That may be paying off mortgages, buying them properties/ contributing or just paying for a holiday. Some of our friends have kids so putting some money aside for them would be really important to help give them a great start when they’re older. There’s no point having loads of money if you can’t treat the people you love too.
If we won the lottery we’d be investing
And finally, we would invest. We’d certainly need financial help with this as neither of us know much about investing but we’d want to put money aside which can help us throughout our lives. Whether that’s stocks and shares, property or whatever else. Having money to help us live a comfortable life without us having to work would be the dream.
