Life In Lockdown Revisited

A few months back I did a post called ‘Life in Lockdown‘ as part of a lockdown roundup thanks to Sarah at Life In A Breakdown and some other bloggers. As it’s been a few months since then I thought I’d revisit the questions and see what has changed.

I hate the whole phrase ‘the new normal’ but it’s totally true. We’re all living day-to-day in some parallel universe where sometimes for a fraction of time things feel normal. Getting a good nights sleep and working from home feels like the dream. Queuing to go into a shop just feels normal, so let’s see what else has changed.

1) How are you feeling/coping?

I’m actually feeling pretty positive at the moment. Things are moving really well with our house and I couldn’t be happier with the thought of moving in soon. Lockdown has taught me a lot of things and I’m trying to learn as much as I can. I’m getting out into the fresh air far more than I was a few months ago. And I’m finding any excuse I can to go for a walk which is definitely helping both my mental and physical health.

2) What are you doing to keep yourself occupied?

I’m still working full-time from home. I’ve actually got my first proper ‘day off’ since starting 3 months ago tomorrow which will be nice. Up until now it’s not felt worth taking time off but I need a break. And I can’t wait to do some tidying/ packing and sorting around the house.

When I’m not working I’m generally sat at a laptop blogging and working which I love. I’ve started rewatching New Girl and I’m on Season 3 already. And I’m only 8 books away from my 40 book target for the year which is great.

3) How are you dealing with everything at the moment – are you self-isolated, going out for essentials etc? Has this changed?

Even though we’re allowed to go to restaurants, bars etc I haven’t done any of that yet. I’ve been to the non-essential shops a few times now but always plan it for first thing in the morning when it’s a bit quieter which makes me feel better. I’m not having to do a proper weekly shop as I get my Ocado delivery every week now. So the odd trip to Co-op to get milk is about all I need to do.

As I said above I have upped my walks a little bit which is good. But I want to carry on doing this even though we’re out of actual lockdown now.

4) What advice do you have for others?

Be sensible when you’re out and about. If someone’s in front of you in a shop just wait or be careful if you walk around them.

5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business

My friend set up her bakery business officially a few weeks ago and we have placed a few orders for donuts as we’re a little obsessed. I’ve been buying a lot of home things, the latest purchase was a kitchen sink which was exciting!

6) How has your routine been this week? (Question by Don’t Cramp My Style)

Due to still working my routine has stayed pretty good. Although I’m enjoying staying in bed until much later than I was pre-lockdown so I need to get back into my mornings when we move.

7) Have you planned anything for once lockdown is over in the past 7 days?? (Don’t Cramp My Style)

I am going on a walk with a friend I’ve not seen in a while on Friday which I’m looking forward to. And next month I’m heading into London for the first time in months to have dinner with a few friends. I’m so excited to see them. But also I need to experience a train and see what it’s like if this is how things are going to be for the foreseeable future.

How are you coping during this time?
